Friday we went to Cinque Terre which is made of five villages on the western coastline and has UNESCO World heritage listing . So off we go on a train from Florence to Pisa and then from Pisa to La Spezia and from there the villages can be accessed by train. We visited three of the villages which were nice but I think we were both disappointed after hearing so much about Cinque Terre. It was a long day but, like anything, you need to experience things to appreciate.

Today was our last day and again we went to visit towns outside Florence. This time we went to Lucca which is a very picturesque town and well worth a visit, perhaps, at any other time than when the Rolling Stones decide to hold a one off concert in the Renaissance walls of Lucca. Ah, yes, timing is everything! I suppose you could call it a memorable day for the residents of Lucca but it made for a very busy place and trains packed with people of all ages attending the concert.

We also went to Pisa to see the leaning tower which was quite impressive . Lots of people around as you would expect. All in all a good day but too many people everywhere. Tourists!

Final impressions of Florence. Beautiful city, full of history and charm . Certainly a place worth visiting.
Tomorrow we head off to Rome to meet up with Gladiators and Popes.
